OSU Introduces Social Media
By Associated Press
Stillwater, Okla. – STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma State University has launched a new social media network for incoming students which school officials say is designed to help with the transition into college.
About 1,800 incoming students from 48 states and eight countries have registered for OKStateU 1.0 since it debuted in May. Only incoming OSU students are allowed to register for the site, which provides information on more than 200 events scheduled during the school's "Welcome Week" for students.
On the site, students can create personal profiles and share photos, videos, schedules and other items.
Terrance Smith, an OSU graduate student who administers the site, says since many students use social media networks, they are familiar with the site's format. He says that OSU officials want the site "to be a place where students could feel secure and communicate."
