Undated – Oklahoma's Promise scholarship program at 15 years

(Information in the following story is from: The Oklahoman, http://www.newsok.com)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's Promise scholarship program for low-income families is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

The program pays tuition and fees at public colleges and universities in Oklahoma. Students at private schools can have a portion of their tuition paid.

Students have to meet certain academic requirements, and their families can't earn more than $50,000, though that limit is to double in 2012.

Jacqueline Smith graduated from Oklahoma State University as a member of the first class to receive the scholarships. Now Smith promotes the program in her job as an English teacher in El Reno.
