Oklahoma Water Woes

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma water plan to be discussed at meetings

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Water Resources Board plans a series of meetings in southeastern Oklahoma to discuss the state's comprehensive water plan.

Policy and planning specialists will unveil early findings of the 2012 Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan. Meetings are planned on May 17 in McAlester, May 18 in Antlers and May 19 in Coalgate.

The study says the largest water use in the Eufaula Watershed Planning Region is for municipal and industrial purposes; in the Southeast Watershed Planning Region it's self-supplied industrial purposes.

In the Blue-Boggy Watershed Planning Region the largest water use is for crop irrigation and, to a lesser extent, municipal and industrial purposes.

Water Resources Board Executive Director J.D. Strong says the reports are designed to allow farmers, industrial operators and others to make informed decisions about water use.
