Oklahoma Trucker Dies while Avoiding Robbery Suspect

City of Miami

QUAPAW, Okla. (AP) — A truck driver died when his tractor-trailer fell over as he tried to avoid a suspect being chased following an attempted bank robbery in northeastern Oklahoma.

Miami Police Chief George Haroldson said the accident occurred Wednesday morning on U.S. 69 north of Quapaw. Haroldson said the suspect was driving erratically and crashed, and that the trucker crashed while avoiding the suspect.

The suspect fled the scene but was later caught.

Haroldson said the suspect entered an IBC Bank branch in Miami and handed the teller a note demanding all of her money. The suspect apparently got scared and left without taking anything, and he didn't show a weapon while in the bank.

A bank worker followed the suspect out of the building and gave police details about his vehicle.
