OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Senate has approved a measure to simplify the criteria for students to be eligible for in-state tuition at Oklahoma colleges and universities.
Under Senate Bill 1624, a U.S. citizen who is an Oklahoma resident when he or she graduates from a state high school will always be eligible for in-state tuition.
Senator John Sparks, who is author of the bill, said he was motivated to file the measure after hearing of Oklahoma high school graduates who were ineligible for in-state tuition because they moved out of state briefly. Sparks says the bill could draw some of the state's best and brightest back to Oklahoma.
Tuition is more expensive for non-resident students than students who are residents of the state.
