Oklahoma Remembers: OKC Bombing

Pool photo

Oklahoma pauses to remember. It was 19-years-ago today that a truck bomb blew apart the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. 168 were killed. Hundreds more were injured.

The act of domestic terrorism was committed by Timothy McVeigh, who drove a Ryder truck and parked it next to the Murrah Day Care Center where 20 children would be among those killed. McVeigh was arrested some 90-minutes after the explosion for driving with an expired auto tag. Co-conspirator Terry Nichols would turn himself into authorities. McVeigh was executed for his crime in 2001. Nichols is serving life in a federal prison.

On this spring morning, people gather at the bombing memorial to remember those lost in the blast. Among the speakers were Governor Fallin and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett.
