OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — With the final candidates in place for November's congressional matchups, Republicans are focusing on a clean sweep of Oklahoma's delegation.
But Democrats are looking not only to defend their only congressional seat but are expressing optimism that a second seat in Tulsa could be in play this year.
Democrats desperately want to hold on to the state's 2nd Congressional District in eastern Oklahoma, where their nominee, Rob Wallace of Fort Gibson, will face Westville plumber Markwayne Mullin. The seat was left open when current Democratic U.S. Representative Dan Boren decided not to seek a fifth term.
Democrats also are encouraged about their chances in the 1st Congressional District in Tulsa where tea party-backed Republican Jim Bridenstine knocked off five-term incumbent U.S. Representative John Sullivan in the GOP primary in June.
