OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The five members of the U.S. House from Oklahoma voted for a resolution intended to fund government while defunding President Barack Obama's health care law.
But leaders in the Democratically controlled Senate say the resolution approved Friday won't clear that chamber, and Obama has pledged a veto in the unlikely event it reaches his desk.
Oklahoma Republican Representatives Tom Cole, Frank Lucas, James Lankford, Markwayne Mullin and Jim Bridenstine each voted for the resolution that passed the House by a 230-189 margin.
Senate Democrats promise to strip the "defund Obamacare" provision from the bill and challenge the House to pass it as a straightforward funding bill.
At issue is the need to pass a short-term funding bill to prevent a partial government shutdown when the budget year ends September 30th.
