OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has voted to deny clemency to a death row inmate who is scheduled to be executed for killing a convenience store clerk nearly 37 years ago.
The board voted 4-1 Monday in the case of Michael Selsor, whose attorneys had asked members to commute his death sentence to life in prison.
Selsor is scheduled to be put to death May 1 for the Sept. 15, 1975, fatal shooting of 55-year-old Clayton Chandler during a robbery at a Tulsa convenience store.
His sentence was changed to life without parole after the state's death penalty statute was declared unconstitutional, but his conviction was thrown out in 1996.
He was found guilty and sentenced to death again in 1998.
Chandler's family declined comment after the meeting.
