Tulsa, OK – 2 Okla police officers remain in custody
TULSA, Okla. (AP) Two Tulsa police officers indicted in a corruption scandal will remain behind bars.
U.S. Magistrate Paul Cleary on Friday ordered Jeff Henderson and Bill Yelton be held in custody without bond.
Federal grand jury indictments accused Henderson, Yelton, Nick DeBruin, Bruce Bonham and retired officer Harold Wells of civil rights violations, planting drug evidence on suspects and other crimes. DeBruin, Bonham and Wells were released on $50,000 unsecured bonds.
Interim Police Chief Chuck Jordan placed Henderson, Yelton, Bonham and DeBruin on unpaid leave Friday.
Eleven people have either been freed from prison or had their charges dismissed as a result of the probe, which is being led by U.S. Attorney Jane Duke of Arkansas, who was appointed after federal prosecutors in Tulsa recused themselves.
