Tulsa, OK – Ex-Tulsa cop convicted of corruption; 2 acquitted

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal jury has convicted a former Tulsa police officer on five corruption counts while acquitting two current officers.

Former Officer Harold Wells was convicted Friday and current Officers Nick DeBruin and Bruce Bonham were cleared. Prosecutors had alleged a plot to plant drugs on suspects to secure arrests and to seize money taken during raids and arrests.

As a result of the FBI probe, more than 30 people have had their convictions overturned or were released from prison based on false arrests. Several of the wrongfully accused have filed lawsuits against the city.

Two other officers are accused of similar crimes and will go to trial in July after pleading not guilty.
