Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. police sergeant accused in sex abuse case

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Prosecutors say an Oklahoma City police sergeant who was honored for his selfless dedication to children had sexually abused four teenage boys in his care.

The Oklahoman reports that 44-year-old Maurice A. Martinez faces 32 felony counts of sexual child abuse. He also faces charges of threatening a witness, child pornography possession and child abuse.

Martinez has been a foster parent for 11 years. He's been under investigation since January when one of the boys he cared for told elders at his church that he had been molested.

The veteran patrol officer is being held without bail in the Oklahoma County jail. Defense attorney Irven Box says he'll seek to have Martinez released on bail.

The Department of Human Services says Martinez cared for about 60 foster children.
