Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma AG objects to extending DOJ oversight

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office is objecting to a Department of Justice request to extend federal court oversight of conditions in the state's juvenile detention system.
The Tulsa World reports that Assistant Attorney General Kindanne Jones wrote in a filing Friday that there's no justification to extend the settlement of Justice Department's 2006 lawsuit.
The Justice Department sued the state over reported problems at the L.E. Rader Center in Sand Springs, which is closing Sept. 30. The settlement contained requirements to address issues of juvenile safety, inappropriate sexual behavior and mental-health services.
The Justice Department filed a motion Sept. 1, alleging the Office of Juvenile Affairs has refused to provide access to records or allow on-site inspections at two centers where juveniles from the Rader Center had been transferred.
