Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's edition of ST, we feature an interesting conversation with Eric Mazur, the Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University. In addition to being one of the world's leading physicists, Mazur is also known for creating and popularizing a teaching strategy known as "peer instruction." Mazur published a book in the late 1990s called "Peer Instruction: A User's Manual" --- and he recently appeared on the University of Tulsa campus in order to instruct TU faculty members, in a "workshop" setting, about this strategy. As Mazur tells our host Rich Fisher on today's StudioTulsa, peer instruction is basically about getting students to understand concepts --- rather than simply to memorize them. So it all comes down to encouraging students to ask "Why?" as often as possible.
