Next Time on All This Jazz, in Celebration of Charlie Parker's Birthday, a Spotlight on Bird's Tunes

Tune in for the forthcoming edition of All This Jazz, which gets underway at 10pm Central on Saturday the 31st, right here on Public Radio 89.5-1. (We'll also gladly offer, as ever, a 7pm re-airing of ATJ on Sunday the 1st on Jazz 89.5-2, which is our station's all-jazz HD Radio channel.)

Each and every week, our show presents modern jazz, both recent and classic, from Basie, Brubeck, Baker, and Billie to Terence Blanchard, Richie Beirach, and Steven Bernstein. Also, the second half of our two-hour program always carries a "theme."

This time around, that theme will be Bird's Compositions. Charlie "Yardbird" Parker would have turned 93 on August 29th, and so we'll happily nod to the bebop master's b-day with a spotlight on his tunes. We'll hear the likes of Joe Lovano, Sonny Stitt, and Roy Hargrove doing such Parker-penned jazz standards as "Now's the Time" and "Yardbird Suite" (as well as a few of his less-familiar lines, such as "Dewey Square" and "Little Suede Shoes").

Hope you can join us.

(PS: Bird lives!)

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
