Tulsa, OK – Mayor Dewey F. Bartlett hosted a groundbreaking Ceremony today, Thursday, March 10, at the site of the new Mohawk Soccer Complex, 56th Street North and Highway 75 in Tulsa.
Construction will begin immediately on the 320-acre Soccer Complex, which will include 10 full-size, lighted soccer fields and seven practice fields. Also included in the project will be restrooms, a concession area, playgrounds, picnic shelter and maintenance building. Parking and Landscaping are also part of the $6 million total cost for the project. Funding will come from Sales Tax revenues (2006) and Vision 2025.
"This new Soccer Complex will be a terrific addition to the Tulsa Park Department and to recreation opportunities in the City of Tulsa," said Mayor Dewey Bartlett. "In addition, it will continue to boost economic growth in north Tulsa by drawing in thousands of people to this region every year."
Lucy Dolman, Parks Department Director, also addressed the crowd at the groundbreaking. "Additions to Mohawk Park continue to make Mohawk an important "Destination Park" in Tulsa," Dolman said. "We are so pleased to be building the high quality soccer complex we have wanted for many years."
The Soccer Complex joins the Tulsa Zoo, Mohawk Golf Course, the Oxley Nature Center with miles of trails, the Polo Field, a 36-hole disk golf course and the Pielsticker Water Playgound as recreation opportunities in Mohawk Park.
Once construction is fully under way, completion of the complex is expected in Spring 2012.
