Narconon Officials Lose Counseling Certifications

File photo

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — The head of a national counseling association says drug counseling certifications have been revoked for the chief executive officer of Narconon Arrowhead and several of the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center's employees.

National Association of Forensic Counselors President Karla Taylor told The McAlester News-Capital for a story published Saturday that CEO Gary Smith and the employee's certificates were revoked earlier this month. Taylor said she can't say why the certificates were revoked.

Phone calls to Narconon Arrowhead seeking comment were not returned.

The rehabilitation center in Canadian — near McAlester — is also under investigation by state and local authorities for the death of Stacy Dawn Murphy of Owasso in a detoxification room at the center last July.
