Meteor Over Oklahoma

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Light streaks across sky in Arkansas, Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Authorities in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma both say they've received numerous reports of a bright light possibly a meteor passing over the area, although they're not sure where it might have landed.

Sheriff's dispatchers on both sides of the border say they received calls about the light Tuesday night. Cara Hunnicut, a dispatcher in Scott County in Arkansas, tells The Associated Press she saw the object and "it was like the sky just lit up for a split second."

Arkansas state Rep. Stephen Meeks, who has taught college astronomy classes, says the object likely was a meteor that contained copper and probably was not larger than a pebble.

Authorities on both sides of the border say they don't know where, or if, the object landed.
