Mental Exam Ordered for Tulsa Shooting Suspect

John Fancher/Tulsa Library

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A judge has ordered a psychiatric examination for a man charged with shooting two people outside of the Tulsa County courthouse.

Attorneys for Andrew Dennehy requested that the evaluation be conducted July 12, and a judge in Tulsa granted that request last week. Dennehy is charged with shooting with intent to kill and reckless conduct with a firearm in connection with the March 7 shootings. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors accuse Dennehy of opening fire outside the Tulsa courthouse, wounding a sheriff's deputy and a bystander. Dennehy was shot in the face after exchanging gunfire with deputies.

Dennehy is due in court July 18 for a preliminary hearing.
