Meningitis in Claremore School

By Denise Brewer

Tulsa, Oklahoma – A staff member in Claremore Public Schools is in the hospital with meningitis. The employee works at Claremont Elementary School. According to CPS officials, the person has limited contact with children. However, the school was sterilized Monday and Tuesday with classes to resume Wednesday.
The meningitis case brings back a raw fear stemming from an outbreak of meningococcal meningitis in the Oologah School District last year. 2 children died and 6 others were seriously ill.
A spokesperson for Claremore Public Schools says this is a different strain of meningitis, but parents are being advised of the situation and all preventive measures taken.
