Muskogee, OK – Okla victim's family wants to talk to governor

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) A man says his family hasn't been able to talk to Gov. Mary Fallin about a Pardon and Parole Board recommendation that the prison sentence of the person convicted in the killing be commuted.

Marty Greco told the Muskogee Phoenix that Fallin's staff hasn't responded to inquiries from his brother, Johnny.

The board voted 3-2 to recommend that Lawrence Watts' 25-year manslaughter sentence be commuted to the six years he's served for the 2003 death of Anthony Greco. Watts, the brother of ex-U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts, says he shot Anthony Greco near Eufaula after Greco threatened to kill him during an argument over money.

Fallin's spokesman, Alex Weintz (wentz), says the governor's office hasn't conferred with either side about the case.

Fallin has until Feb. 7 to make a decision.
