Tulsa, OK – Chamber Music Tulsa, per its website, "was founded in 1954 to promote chamber music through concerts and music education outreaches to students and other community organizations. It is the premier arts organization in Northeast Oklahoma solely committed to presenting affordable performances by young American chamber music groups, as well as world-renowned artists." This much-cherished and long-running component of Tulsa's fine arts scene it will offer the next concert in its current season on Saturday and Sunday, the 28th and 29th, when it presents the highly regarded Miro Quartet at the Tulsa PAC. (For more about these concerts, which will feature music by Barber, Haydn, Glass, Brahms, and others, please visit http://www.chambermusictulsa.org/group3.html.) Our guest on StudioTulsa is Bruce Sorrell, the newly named executive director of Chamber Music Tulsa. Sorrell has had more than two decades' experience as a conductor, music director, and executive director of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. In fact, as he tells us on today's show, he actually founded that organization.
