Logan County Opens New Female Housing Unit

GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) — The Logan County Sheriff's Office has opened a new inmate housing unit for female offenders.

Chief Deputy Richard Stephens said Friday that the new unit will almost double the female inmate capacity at the Logan County Detention Center. Stephens says the center could already accommodate 22 female inmates and the new unit adds space for 20 more.

Trends over the past four years have shown an increase in the number of women being held in the county detention center. This has led to the female housing unit being full or over capacity at times.

The sheriff's office and the Logan County Jail Commission approved funding for the expansion of the detention center earlier this year.
