Lawmakers Probe

Oklahoma City, OK – Prosecutor: Okla. lawmakers had 'slush fund'

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater says some lawmakers had a "slush fund" and he is expanding his investigation into possible corruption.

Prater is investigating allegations state Rep. Randy Terrill conspired to create an $80,000-a-year state job for Sen. Debbe Leftwich so she wouldn't run for re-election allowing Rep. Mike Christian to run for the seat.

The Oklahoman reported in a copyright story that Prater says the Legislature appears to have improperly taken money from the state narcotics bureau and sent it to other state agencies. The money for Leftwich's salary was to have come from the narcotics bureau.

The bill was vetoed.

Terrill, Christian and Leftwich have each have denied wrongdoing.
