Tulsa, OK – Okla agency orders landfill to stop taking waste

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has told a north Tulsa landfill where a fire occurred to stop accepting waste.

The agency issued the emergency order Thursday to the North Tulsa Sanitary Landfill.

Under the order, the landfill must be in compliance with all applicable regulations, including those that may have contributed to the fire, before it can reopen.

DEQ remained at the site Thursday, conducting an inspection and providing technical assistance. Officials say the Environmental Protection Agency has dispatched an airplane capable of monitoring air quality to the site.

The fire occurred at the landfill on Wednesday.
