KWGS Wins Awards from AP

Oklahoma City, OK – KWGS receives four citations from the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters. Public Radio 89.5 was the only Tulsa radio station to be honored.

KWGS won a first place award for an hour long documentary produced by Brad Gibson, John Durkee and Denise Brewer dealing with the H1N1 virus and Oklahoma. The program was broadcast last November.

KWGS's John Durkee won a first place award for a news feature dealing with Tulsa increasing homeless problem. The feature, in April of 2009, dealt with the economic impact the recession is having on social service agencies.

A second place citation was given to John Durkee for "Best Use of Sound" in a feature story dealing with the renovation of the Mayo Hotel. Marshall Stewart received an honorable mention for his news series dealing with Tulsa's Juvenile Justice System.
