Tulsa, Oklahoma – (Please note: This program originally aired in September of 2010.) On this edition of our program, we present a conversation with Grammy-winning jazz writer Bob Blumenthal about the outstanding jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, who turned 80 last week. Blumenthal has collaborated with photographer John Abbott on "Saxophone Colossus: A Portrait of Sonny Rollins," which has just been published by Abrams. This book presents a gorgeous collection of nearly 100 photographs of Rollins --- which range over the last two decades --- along with several essays by Blumenthal covering all aspects of a certain sax-wielding genius and his remarkable life in modern music. It's a creative life that's still very much in progress, as Blumenthal tells us on today's installment of StudioTulsa.
