Bartlesville, OK – Washington County to run Bartlesville jail

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) The Bartlesville City Council and Washington County commissioners have approved an agreement that would allow the county to handle operations at the Bartlesville city jail.

The City Council voted 4-0 Monday on the proposal, which is expected to help the county add staff to its jail more quickly and save the city $36,425 annually.

Bartlesville's city jail has a 16-person capacity and typically books in eight people per day. Under the new policy, the county can use the city jail to house inmates if needed.

Washington County was set to begin in 2012 housing city jail inmates in a new $14.5 million detention center.

The timetable accelerated when the county wanted to hire three of the city's jailers immediately, leaving only two jailers to run its operation.
