Its Mullin-vs-Wallace in District 2

Campaign photos

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Longtime state and federal prosecutor Rob Wallace has defeated Muskogee seed seller Wayne Herriman for the Democratic Party nomination in Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District.

Wallace will try to keep the seat in Democratic hands this fall against a Republican nominee also selected Tuesday. Congressman Dan Boren announced last year he wouldn't seek re-election.

The 49-year-old Wallace of Fort Gibson enjoyed endorsements from some of the state's most popular Democrats, including former Gov. Brad Henry, former Attorney General Drew Edmondson and University of Oklahoma President David Boren, the incumbent's father.

Wallace touted himself as a Democrat who fits the increasingly conservative 2nd District.

Wallace will join the GOP candidate and independent Michael Fulks on the November ballot.

Dan Boren is currently Oklahoma's only Democratic congressman.

----For the GOP----

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Westville plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin has defeated three-term state Rep. George Faught for the Republican nomination in Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District.

The political newcomer raised $1 million and painted himself as a political outsider who can make a difference in Washington. The 35-year-old also loaned his campaign more than $255,000.

Faught raised half as much money and touted his experience at the Legislature. The 50-year-old owner of a carpet cleaning business didn't enter politics until he was in his 40s.

Mullin had led Faught in a six-candidate primary in June. Democrats also picked their nominee Tuesday.

The 2nd District stretches in eastern Oklahoma from Kansas to Texas and is currently held by retiring Democratic U.S. Rep. Dan Boren.

Mullin has said he would serve only three terms if elected.
