Tulsa, Oklahoma – (Note: This program first aired earlier this year.) On our show today, we converse with the writer and columnist Susan Maushart about an "experiment" that she recently conducted on her own family --- a social experiment, you might say, that was (according to the author) originally intended "as a kind of purge...[but] ended up as so much more." This experiment, which basically entailed a return to pre-Digital Age living, is fully documented in Maushart's latest book, "The Winter of Our Disconnect: How Three Totally Wired Teenagers (and a Mother Who Slept with Her iPhone) Pulled the Plug on Their Technology and Lived to Tell the Tale." As one critic of this book has noted, writing in The Washington Post: "Writing in a breezy, conversational style, Maushart weaves anecdotes with statistics and cultural studies [in order to offer] an inspiring and entertaining case for the unplugged life."
