Tulsa, OK – Horse virus prompts OK Breeder's even postponement

(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The Breeder's Invitational that was set for this week in Tulsa has been postponed to try to prevent spread of a horse virus.

The Tulsa World reported Sunday that the event is being delayed because two horses at a show in Utah were found to have equine herpesvirus last week.

Organizers of the Tulsa event say they are concerned other horses may have caught the virus and that they don't want it to spread by bringing more horses together.

The virus is spread through the air among horses and can cause spontaneous miscarriages and death. It can also spread through contaminated equipment clothing and hands.
