Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of StudioTulsa, we hear from Hugh Ambrose, son of the late historian Stephen Ambrose and a noted historian in his own right. Hugh Ambrose has written a new book, "The Pacific," which is the official companion volume to the ten-part HBO television miniseries by the same title. (Part Three of this miniseries will debut on HBO on Sunday the 28th; Ambrose also served as a consultant to this project.) As Ambrose tells our host Rich Fisher, his book is meant to enhance and expand upon the HBO series, offering detailed profiles of four U.S. Marines and a U.S. Navy carrier pilot. These profiles, based mainly on personal recollections, firsthand dramas, and eye-witness accounts, bring both narrative immediacy and historical perspective to the various World War II battles fought in the Pacific Rim. Also on today's show, commentator Connie Cronley has a fascinating "Alice in Wonderland"-related story to share with us --- a delightful story that, indeed, just keeps getting "curiouser and curiouser."
