Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Gov. Brad Henry is seeking federal disaster assistance for Oklahoma County residents and businesses affected by flooding earlier this month.
Henry made the request Monday for residents and businesses affected by floods between July 6 and 12.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management says 226 homes were damaged by flooding but only about 2 percent of them were insured through the National Flood Insurance Program.
If approved, Oklahomans with uninsured storm-related damage would be eligible for assistance for housing repairs or temporary housing as well as U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans for individuals and businesses to repair or replace damaged property.
They may also be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance and grants for serious needs and disaster expenses not met by other programs.
