Hearing set for Okla. principal charged in crash

JAY, Okla. (AP) — An eastern Oklahoma middle school principal is free on $11,000 bond after he was charged with manslaughter in a fatal boating crash on Grand Lake.

Roger Shane Carroll of Eucha appeared in court this week on charges of first-degree manslaughter and reckless operation of a vessel. He's charged in the July 29 death of Monte Price of Jay.

Carroll is the principal of Jay Middle School.

An affidavit says Carroll and three others went out on Grand Lake to celebrate after a wedding reception. Price died after the boat crashed into a breakwater structure.

Carroll's attorney, Winston Connor II, tells the Miami News Record that the case is an "unnecessary expenditure of funds that puts the Price and Carroll families through heartache."

Carroll is due in court Dec. 6.
