Hearing Delayed for Man Charged in Veteran Scandal

KWGS News File Photo

CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) — A judge has delayed the preliminary hearing for a former physician assistant charged in the deaths of two patients at the Claremore Veterans Center.

The hearing was set to begin Monday for Kenneth Adams, but court records show the proceedings have been pushed back to Jan. 21. Adams was indicted by an Oklahoma multicounty grand jury on two felony counts of second-degree murder — or the alternative charge of second-degree manslaughter. He was also indicted for neglect by a caretaker.

The indictment accuses Adams of caretaker neglect in March 2012 that led to the death of 86-year-old Louis Arterberry. He's also accused of committing caretaker abuse in May 2012 that led to the death of 85-year-old Peter "Jay" Minter.

Adams' attorney has said his client is innocent of the accusations.
