Grand Jury for Rogers County is now Closer

KWGS News

A judge has approved a petition filed by Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton and others seeking a grand jury investigation of District Attorney Janice Steidley and other leaders.

The petition was approved Thursday by Grady County District Judge Richard Van Dyck. Now, the petition sponsors have 45 days to collect 4,487 signatures of registered voters. If they succeed, a grand jury will be convened to begin the inquiry into allegations of corruption, witness tampering and other wrongdoing.

The Claremore Daily Progress reports that petition sponsors plan to begin gathering signatures immediately.

Steidley has called the allegations "baseless and pathetic."

Organizers will need to collect the signatures of registered voters, county wide. They hope to start collecting the signatures over the holiday weekend.
