Governor Warns Criticism of School Grades Unproductive

NGA

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Governor Mary Fallin says criticism from educators of Oklahoma' A through F grading of schools is unproductive and could affect funding for public schools next year.

Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz tells the Tulsa World that the criticism cripples Fallin's ability to make the case to the public and to lawmakers that increased funding can help improve schools and student performance.

School officials statewide have criticized the A to F grading of schools since its debut in 2012. They have referred to a report by University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University researchers that says the formula underlying the A through F grades is flawed and "has very little meaning."

Weintz says Fallin disagrees with the report.

The A through F grades are to be released this week.
