Oklahoma City, OK – Henry honored by guard group

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Brad Henry is being honored for his support of the Oklahoma National Guard by the National Guard Association of the United States.

The group has awarded Henry with the Charles Dick Medal of Merit. Henry was nominated for the award by Oklahoma's adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Myles Deering.

Deering says Henry's support means a lot to citizen-soldiers who are engaged in conflicts in the Middle East.

He says Henry was instrumental in ensuring they received increased insurance benefits to take care of their families and loved ones. Henry's Operation Homefront included income tax relief and life insurance policies for every member of the National Guard.

Deering says the governor understands the sacrifices made by service members, their families, and employers.
