Stillwater, OK – State superintendent honored with teaching award
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) State Superintendent Sandy Garrett is being honored with a lifetime Oklahoma Teacher of the Year award.
Garrett received the award during a surprise presentation Friday afternoon as part of a ceremony conducted at Oklahoma State University by the Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year Association.
The ceremony included a number of former state teachers of the year, who presented Garrett with a teacher of the year pin, plaques and a tribute book.
Gov. Brad Henry read a proclamation honoring Garrett, who plans to step down in January after 20 years as the state's top education official.
Garrett also is scheduled to be honored Friday night during a dinner at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
