Follow-Up to Police Shooting

By Associated Press

Muskogee, OK – OSBI asked to investigate police shooting

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to look into the officer-involved shooting of a woman in Muskogee last week.

In a letter to the agency, Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore said certain circumstances had arisen since the shooting that warranted further investigation. Moore declined on Tuesday to say what those circumstances were.

Letha Adams was fatally shot while struggling with Officer Perry Galvin after he responded to a domestic disturbance and burglary call at the home of Adams' mother. Police spokesman Pedro Zardeneta says Adams tried to take Galvin's gun during the tussle.

Zardeneta says after Officer Ginny Bemo arrived at the scene, she shot Adams to stop the assault.

Adams died at a Muskogee hospital.

Bemo was placed on routine administrative leave.
