Flu Takes Another Death

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. child's death is 5th flu-related fatality

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma State Department of Health says another person Child has died from complications of influenza in Oklahoma.

State health officials say a Cleveland County child under the age of 5 is the fifth death associated with the flu since Sept. 1. Officials say a rapid test performed on the child came up positive for Type B influenza.

Officials say the child had an underlying medical condition.

Of the 318 flu specimens submitted to the agency for lab tests, 214 tested positive for the flu. Seventy-one percent were positive for Type A flu, 2.3 percent were positive for the swine flu (H1N1) and 26.7 percent were positive for Type B flu.

Officials say 53 percent of influenza-associated hospitalizations reported to the Health Department involved children 18 years old or younger.
