Tulsa, OK – (Tulsa, OK) Limited amounts of H1N1 vaccine continue to arrive in Tulsa. Unfortunately at this time, there is not a large enough supply to make H1N1 vaccine available to the general public. The federal government has ordered 250 million doses of H1N1 flu vaccine which means that essentially anyone who wishes to receive the vaccine will eventually be able to do so.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced last week that vaccine supplies will continue to be somewhat limited during the next few weeks. It is anticipated that by the end of November there could be enough supply in the Tulsa community to broaden the scope to those outside of the high risk categories.
During the week of October 26th the Tulsa Health Department will not be offering H1N1 flu vaccinations at their clinic sites. The limited amount of H1N1 vaccine in supply will be used to vaccinate children and faculty at local area schools. During school-based vaccinations, the vaccine is only available to children enrolled at the school and faculty.
The Tulsa Health Department will offer a walk-in clinic on Thursday, October 29th at the Tulsa Community College Northeast campus (3737 E. Apache Street, Tulsa, OK 74115) from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The walk-in clinic will be available to the following groups:
All children ages 6 months - 18 years
Pregnant women
Frontline healthcare workers with direct patient contact to acutely ill
Custodial parents of infants less than 6 months of age
It is the intention of the Tulsa Health Department to hold walk-in clinics in various locations throughout Tulsa County as vaccine supplies increase.
