Fire Fighters Battle Apartment Fire in Tulsa in Bitter Cold

KWGS News File photo

Tulsa Fire fighters are looking for the cause of a pre-dawn fire at an east Tulsa apartment complex. The blaze was reported just before 7 a.m. at the Whispering Oaks Apartments.

The complex is on 11th Street near Highway 169. About a half-dozen apartment units were heavily damaged by the fire. Those forced from the apartments were ushered  across the street to the Mingo Valley Police Station to seek shelter from the cold.

The temperature was 1-degree in Tulsa at the time of the fire. That made for rough working conditions for Tulsa Fire fighters. Several fire fighters reported the water was freezing almost as fast as it was coming from the fire hose.

There were reports of several minor injuries associated with the fire, including exposure and ice falls.
