Fatal Plane Crash

By Associated Press

Duncan, OK – FAA says 1 death confirmed in Oklahoma plane crash

DUNCAN, Okla. (AP) The Federal Aviation Administration says one person has been killed in a plane crash near Duncan.

FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said Wednesday law enforcement officials confirmed that the pilot was the Cessna 172's sole occupant and was killed in the crash.

The plane went down about 3:10 p.m. and caught fire about 13 miles east of Duncan in Stephens County. Aerial footage of the crash showed the plane's wreckage smoldering in a field near a tree.

Lunsford said the plane was patrolling pipelines in the area, but he didn't know what company or individual the aircraft was registered to or where it departed.

It was the second fatal plane crash in Oklahoma in a week. Last Wednesday, a small airplane crashed in Yukon, killing the pilot.
