Fake Death Notices

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. military warns of fake death notifications

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Army National Guard is warning the families of military personnel of a hoax involving fake death notifications in the Oklahoma City area.

Lt. Col. Max Moss says the wife of a Navy serviceman was approached this week by two people wearing camouflage uniforms and claiming to be Army Casualty Notification Officers who told her that her husband had been killed. Moss says the woman was asked to sign paperwork but refused and called Tinker Air Force Base for help.

Moss said death notifications are made by a member of the same branch of service as the service member and that officers will be in a dress uniform.

Moss told The Oklahoman that it isn't known if other families have been approached.
