Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of our show, we speak by phone with the noted scholar and ethnomusicologist Kay Kaufman Shelemay of Harvard University. She'll soon be visiting TU --- as a 2010 Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Lecturer --- on Thursday and Friday (December 2nd and 3rd). During her visit, Shelemay will offer a free-to-the-public lecture, "Music and Memory," on Thursday evening at 7:30pm in Helmerich Hall on the University of Tulsa campus. On StudioTulsa today, she speaks about her equally fascinating and pioneering career in the field of ethnomusicology, which has long been focused on the music of Ethiopia. (You can learn more about Shelemay's upcoming appearances at TU here: http://www.utulsa.edu/academics/colleges/Henry-Kendall-College-of-Arts-and-Sciences/Departments-and-Schools/School-of-Music/News-Events-and-Publications/Events-Calendar/2010/December/Music_and_Memory_Lecture.aspx.)
