Norman, OK – Cleveland Co. inmate poses as cellmate to escape

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Cleveland County authorities are searching for a county jail escapee who posed as his cellmate who was to be released on bond.

Authorities say 39-year-old Rowdy Offield was last seen walking away from the Cleveland County Detention Center about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Undersheriff Rhett Burnett told The Norman Transcript that Offield shaved his head and facial hair to look more like his cellmate. Burnett said other inmates helped in the escape and threatened the cellmate to keep him quiet.

The cellmate's name was not released.

Offield was being held on a robbery with weapons charge. He is about 5-feet-9 and 180 pounds with blue eyes.
