Oklahoma City, OK – Lawmakers eye use of mobile technology in schools
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State lawmakers are exploring ways to bypass traditional textbooks and promote the use of mobile technology like laptop computers and electronic reading devices by Oklahoma students.
State Rep. Don Armes requested the study, which was conducted Wednesday by the House Education Committee.
The Faxon Republican says traditional textbooks are heavy, expensive and often outdated. He says he hopes his colleagues will explore how new technology could result in cost savings for Oklahoma schools.
Among those who testified Wednesday was the superintendent of the Crescent school district, where each student in grades six through 12 are provided with laptop computers. Lawmakers also heard from representatives of Apple computers and publishing companies.
