Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's show, we feature a conversation with Lesley Blume, an author and journalist who's written about politics, culture, media, and fashion for publications ranging from Slate to Vogue, and who's now the contributing Style section editor at The Huffington Post. Blume has written a quirky, witty, and whimsical little book called "Let's Bring Back: An Encyclopedia of Forgotten-Yet-Delightful, Chic, Useful, Curious, and Otherwise Commendable Things from Times Gone By." It's a book that explores American pop culture, nostalgia, bygone trends, and even old-fashioned manners and traditions by explaining such widely varied phenomena as cuckoo clocks, bed curtains, hot toddies, riddles, proverbs, corsets, calling cards, parasols, opera glasses, safari hats, ambrosia, white gloves, dumbwaiters, and, well, books themselves (along with bookplates and book slipcovers, mind you). Inspired by her popular online column of the same name, and featuring "guest entries" from several famous icons of style and culture, Blume's "Let's Bring Back" is a fascinating and fun-to-browse-though compendium of things that entertained, awed, beautified, civilized, stimulated, and satiated us in eras past.
