Edmond, OK – 3 Edmond men indicted in tobacco sting

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Three Edmond men have been indicted on charges of selling more than $3 million in untaxed cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.

The 59-count federal indictment unsealed Wednesday charges 40-year-old Khawer Ghill, 41-year-old Ahsan Ullah and 60-year-old Asmat Ullah with conspiracy, money laundering and trafficking in contraband cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Ghill and Ahsan Ullah are also accused of fraud by taking nearly $500,000 in loans and credit card transactions they allegedly had no intention to repay.

The three are accused of selling at least 103,700 cartons of cigarettes and 265,310 cans of smokeless tobacco on which no taxes were paid.

Oklahoma Tax Commission spokeswoman Paula Ross told The Oklahoman that the amount would be a loss of about $1.4 million in taxes to the state.
